April 12, 2015 -  Membership Kickoff at Rancho Bernardo Inn

Our annual membership kickoff included over 70 attendees, including members, guests and sponsors.  First the lunch and vendor showcases were enjoyed and attendees were able to peruse and add their tickets to their favorite prize drawing opportunities,  That was followed by a very fun "step-aside" scramble shot gun golf game. A step-aside scramble is one where the person whose shot is selected does not play the next shot.  This format helps speed up the pace of play but still gives everyone a chance to play.  We finished play in less than 4.5 hours, which gave us ample time to enjoy the 19th hole!

The Winners of the step-aside scramble game:

1st place team: Sonja Stevenson, Dorothea Sledge, Leslee Patterson, Beverly Patterson

2nd place team: Paula Covert, Pam Patterson, Ashley Riggs-Zeigen, Cathy Wright

Skill challenge awards:

Closest to the pin #2: Pat Haberman

Closest to the pin # 13: Dorothea Sledge

Straightest drive #15: Michelle Schmidt

The best news of the day was the announncement that we secured 10 new members (possibly 12 because Pat H. and Nancy H. each think they have one more coming!)  We are extremely happy to welcome our new members, shown with their member sponsor:

“Helping others is the way to Higher Individual Well Being”1

There are many benefits to volunteering. Here are some thoughts to ponder …

1)  It is a chance to meet people outside your life patterns.  You can make new friends and contacts and increase your social and relationship skills.

2) Volunteering is enriching for your mind and body.  When you perform good deeds for others and the community, it provides a natural sense of accomplishment and boosts your self-confidence, self-esteem, and life satisfaction.

3)  An opportunity to can advance your career.  You can learn valuable job skills if you want to change or explore an area of interest.  If you want to learn accounting, be or help the Finance & Records Director.  If you want to learn marketing, be or help the Marketing & Sponsorship Director.  If you want to do Event Planning, be or help the Events & Activities Director. Check out some opportunities by seeing our list of Directors and their positions.

4)  It can be fun and fulfilling to your life.  Volunteering is a fun and easy way to explore your interests and passion.

EWGA San Diego Chapter members are busy women.  Thus, pace of play at our golf events is important.  We ask you to join us in speeding our pace of play by making these simple commitments to pace of play:

1.  We will play "ready golf" unless it is an official Tournament.
2.  We will pick up on a hole when we've reached our maximum strokes (equitable stroke control).
3.  We will move quickly to our ball. When our balls are relatively close, we will drop off our golf cart partner and then go to our ball
4.  We will be prepared (have a provisional ball handy; bring extra clubs when walking to the ball; limit practice swings).

If you have other suggestions to add to the pledge, please share them with
